An update on the St Peter’s Community Hub (formerly Molesey Centre) - July 2026

We are excited to confirm that the new St Peter’s Community Hub and Keys Cafe is now open!

The Keys Cafe is now open on Mondays and Wednesdays. We will offer light meals, cakes and barista coffees in addition to an affordable hot meal offering which is designed with elderly guests in mind but available to all. From 7th September the Keys Cafe will open Monday - Friday.

Our new soft play frame will arrive in August and until then we’ll have toys for younger children to play with. In addition to this we are working with various partners, including Kings Church and the Friends of the Molesey Community to explore further ways to engage with people of all ages in Molesey. We will also be looking to build on our existing team of volunteers to make the project a success. The Community Hub will be available to hire for classes and parties on midweek evenings and weekends.

Looking back - our progress so far this year

In March, the lease to St Peter’s was agreed in principle and Elmbridge Borough Council announced that the building would be closing on 17th April to clear it of their property. St Peter’s contacted hirers of the building to offer them alternative St Peter’s venues during the closure. Some hirers chose to move on to other locations and others will be returning to the Community Hub.

15th May – the lease was signed giving St Peter’s access to the building and to begin to engage with builders on the refurbishment of the Community Hub. The refurbishment includes repainting, sanding and varnishing the hall floor, some updates to the toilets, wiring and changes to the serving area between the kitchen and cafe space.

What will be changing?

In July, when we reopen, the Molesey Centre will be renamed St Peter’s Community Hub. This was suggested by Elmbridge Borough Council and is to mark a departure from the previous council-run format, to our new offering. The Community Hub will be open to ALL members of the community, and the membership format that was previously in place will lapse. The St Peter’s Community & Youth Hub on Ray Road will continue to run and will be renamed the St Peter’s Youth Hub. Whether you are elderly or young you are welcome to come to the Community Hub. The St Peter’s vision is to provide warm, friendly environment for everybody, and we aim to battle economic inequality, loneliness and isolation and encourage people to come together in a community space. The previous format of the Centre was funded by the Council. In our new set up, St Peter’s is responsible for raising funds to keep the lights on and the bills paid. The Community Hub will therefore operate The Keys Café, with a menu which includes light meals, treats and more. Our aim will be to keep some traditional items on the menu.

Currently, there is no scope for St Peter’s to bring back Meals on Wheels. This was a service shut down by the Council and was not part of the bid.

The Keys Cafe will open its doors initially on Mondays and Wednesdays and then by September 2026 onwards will run at the Community Hub 5 days a week. There will be a mixture of menu items with affordable options for all guests. For anyone who wishes to donate more to The Keys Cafe, the money goes back into running the Community Hub as well as the other St Peter’s Charities including East Elmbridge Foodbank and Molesey Churches Night Shelter.

Volunteers will play a big part in how the Community Hub and The Keys Cafe work, providing excellent opportunities for people who want to serve our community, socialise or learn skills for future careers. There will be a wide variety of volunteer roles, including welcoming and chatting to guests. You can find out more about volunteering positions by clicking on the button below..

The Parlour (which is the old Dining room area) will include a space for social activities that elderly guests may be familiar with such as Knit & Natter/Sew group and Bridge among others. On the other side of the foldable wall you will now find The Lounge, which will contain a soft play area for our youngest clients to enjoy, with cosy seating for their parents and grandparents to keep a watchful eye on them. We are excited to introduce a lovely intergenerational element to the Hub, as studies show that the elderly and youngsters benefit from each others’ company.

We will be transferring Great Create Crafts group on Mondays, and Lunch Lounge on Wednesdays to the Community Hub. The Lunch Lounge will continue to provide a free lunch for anyone who would like it.

The Therapy room will continue to offer Hairdressing and Foot Care specialists.

We have been in regular contact with previous hirers of the building and given them first refusal on bookings. Of the classes which are returning, class times are likely to change when they return to the building.

What's the latest?

The building will reopened on Monday 20th July with a Welcome Back Tea Party for former members and elderly guests to visit. The Keys Cafe will then open on Mondays and Wednesdays during July.
